Week 1 Humility

Spiritual renewal is the church waking up to the presence of Christ in her midst.

It begins when we humble ourselves before God and seek God’s renewing, reviving power.

Proverbs 22:4 defines for us what humility is: “Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.” Fear of the Lord is not referring to being scared of the Lord but rather remembering that God alone is all-powerful. It is our acknowledgement that only God deserves all glory, honor, and praise. Therefore, being humble means that we acknowledge that we are completely dependent on God and that without Him, we wouldn’t be who we are, and we wouldn’t have what we have or lead the life we live.

Practicing humility shows that we put ourselves in a position that points all glory and honor back to God. This week mediate and pray over the following verses. Pray specifically that God would show you the necessity of humility and humbleness in your everyday life.

“Humility is fear of the Lord, its wages are riches and honor
and life.” (Proverbs 22:4)

“Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved,
put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and
patience. (Colossians 3:12)

“When arrogance comes, disgrace follows, but with humility
comes wisdom.” (Proverbs 11:2)

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
(James 4:10)
